Did Claude Code's weekly limit just go down?

Yes, if you are on Pro, Max, Team, or a legacy seat-based Enterprise plan. For about two months Anthropic ran a limited-time promotion that raised Claude Code's weekly usage limits by 50%. It was extended once, to 11:59pm PT on July 19, 2026, and then it ended. As of July 20, weekly limits return to their standard levels.

It applied automatically, so it was removed automatically. Nothing in your account changed, same plan and same price, but the weekly ceiling you had last week is roughly a third lower this week. A +50% boost going away means 1.5x drops back to 1x. The 5-hour rolling limit and other Claude products were not part of the promo and are unaffected. Free and consumption-based Enterprise seats never had the boost to lose.

To be fair to Anthropic: this was extra capacity they gave for a couple of months and then stopped giving. That is their call to make. The point is not that they took something away. It is the shape of the thing.

Why did the limit drop if my plan didn't change?

Because a promotional limit is a ceiling the vendor controls, on the vendor's schedule, not yours.

This is the same mechanism as the 5-hour rolling window: a lever for shaping load, dressed up as a quota. A rolling window resets on the clock instead of on your work. A promo ceiling rises and falls on a marketing calendar instead of on your usage. In both cases the number you plan around can move without you deciding it moved, and you find out when you hit it.

If you sized your week around the boosted limit in June, this week's wall arrives sooner than you expect, on a Tuesday, mid-task, for a reason that has nothing to do with the work in front of you.

What does typed do instead?

The honest tradeoffs

A monthly quota means we have to size quotas for real coding workloads instead of theoretical peaks, and the headline number is bounded by what we will actually commit to. A vendor running rolling windows or temporary boosts can advertise a larger nominal number, because most users will not approach it in any single window. We cannot lean on that, and we would rather the number be real.
